The Art of Carriage Driving

Experienced drivers Nick and Samantha van der Sande are available to give lessons in how to drive a horse or team of horses based on traditional German and English driving methods. Starting with an introductory level they can take you right through to a full driving course.

The driving lessons are safe and enjoyable. Every student starts with the driving simulator before trying their hand behind a quiet and experienced horse.

Experienced drivers are also welcomed for tuition, and encouraged to bring their own horse and vehicle for assessment and assistance. Nick and Samantha are highly experienced show and competition drivers and are willing to work through any issues or problems associated with training. There is a round yard and full sized all weather driving arena on site available for use. Horses occasionally taken for schooling.*

We look forward to hearing from you!

Clinics and Tuition

A driving lesson makes the perfect gift for the horse lover. Why not treat someone to a full carriage driving lesson with one of New Zealand's most recognised coachmen? The team at Pirongia Clydesdales are happy to supply gift vouchers.

Nick and Samantha also travel to give block driving courses and clinics throughout both North and South Islands. The clinics cover general driving, and harness breaking and training. Throughout all clinics and lessons, safety remains a paramount concern, and much of the clinic will be dedicated to teaching a full safety routine in driving.

Clinics require a minimum of eight people, so it's best to get a keen group together to have Nick and Samantha travel to your area. Please enquire as to prices and upcoming clinic dates.
