Clydesdales rub shoulders with equestrian royalty
Once again the team at Pirongia Clydesdales is looking forward to another stellar show organised by Kevin Hansen and the management committee at the New Zealand Horse of the Year Show, but this year’s show promises something extra special thanks to a visit from one very special guest.Once again the Pirongia Clydesdales will harness up with special guest, New Zealand Olympic Gold Medallist, Sir Mark Todd, to lead a parade through Hastings Township. The parade will consist of a number of equine groups and riders to help to draw crowds to what’s regarded as one of the greatest equestrian celebrations on the planet.
The Clydesdales are certainly no strangers to fame having rubbed shoulders with celebrities across the length and breadth of New Zealand, and recently carried the bronze-winning Olympic Equestrian Team through Cambridge following their arrival back to New Zealand, last year. The team has been employed by the Horse of the Year Show for the past four years as a main attraction in the show's Premier Arena and owner, Nick van der Sande, says he’s looking forward to a bigger and better show this month.
“The Horse of the Year Show is extremely special to us and we are truly honoured to play such an integral part of this world-class equine event.”
Spectators can enjoy presentations by the Clydesdale team as they lead out the presentations to the championship classes in the Premier Arena each day. Premier class sponsors can also enjoy a wagon ride with the gentle giants for the presentation of their sponsored class.
This year’s show will also feature an educational section for local school children with seminars and demonstrations from the equine industry. Representatives from Pirongia Clydesdales will be on site to provide information and history around the working horse in New Zealand.
